Meet the father daughter artists: Kaidence & Ryan
Since a very young age, Kaidence has always expressed a natural inclination toward art. I began archiving her work once I realized it extended beyond the typical childhood creations—it was something deeper, more intentional.
In 2024, as I continued to develop my own artistic practice, I applied for and was selected as a PROOF Fellow at Zygote Press. During my time in the fellowship, I was introduced to new printmaking techniques that I later shared with Kaidence. Together, we began creating—exploring linocuts, monoprints, and screen prints inspired by drawings she made as a young girl.
This process became more than just art-making; it was a meaningful opportunity to connect, to learn from one another, and to nurture a shared love for creating. The work presented here is born from that collaboration—rooted in memory, growth, and the quiet moments of making together.
A bit more about Ryan - As a multidisciplinary visual storyteller, my work explores memory, community, and identity through photography, printmaking, and mixed media. Rooted in my Cleveland upbringing, I’m drawn to the quiet poetry of everyday spaces — playgrounds at dusk, corner stores, makeshift basketball hoops, beauty rituals passed down through generations — and the ways they shape who we become. I create imagery that feels both archival and immediate, blending nostalgia with contemporary portraiture to honor the resilience, softness, and complexity within Black life. Through each body of work, I aim to preserve moments that might otherwise be overlooked, inviting viewers to see themselves — and their own histories — reflected with care.
Kaidence & Ryan’swork is on view in all five restorartive boxes, April 1st — April 30th.
