Courtney Shutt is a Cleveland-based artist with a BFA in Studio Art from Kent State University. Her work is influenced by the natural world and her relationship to it. A reflection on time is central to her practice, ranging from detailed observations of rock formations with lichen—symbols of permanence and deep time—to fleeting moments of human interaction within nature.
The recurring motif of hands connects to the title of this work, I Have a Blister From Touching Everything I See. The gesture nods to a desire to be part of nature and fully present within it—an action, a feeling, a moment that reveals something magical. At the same time, it acknowledges the human impulse to want, touch, and ultimately own everything around us.
This work invites viewers to tap into a childlike sense of wonder while reflecting on our longing to belong to nature, and the impact we have on it in doing so.
Courtney’s work is on view in all five restorartive boxes, February 1st - February 28th.
