jazzee rozier

the story behind the artist and piece LOOPHOLE:

jazzee rozier is a multidisciplinary artist from cleveland, oh. her main focus is drawing in mixed media, printmaking, and photography as well as incorporating a lot of her own writing in her work. these writings range from poetry and song lyrics to stream of consciousness and storytelling which rozier uses as leverage to express herself through this form of art. along with this, rozier’s main goal is to allow the flow of words and humanize herself while creating colorful art as a response to childhood grief and trauma. this piece LOOPHOLE displays the artist's inner turmoil and confidence of working so much but eventually making it out on the other side of things. the bold blocks of color with flashy symbols diverts the audience from the ambiguously written text— the words acting as a feature of rozier’s own words and written lyrics from the song LOOPHOLE by music group brockhampton. rozier hopes to continue to invite viewers to look beyond the surface of art and feel a sense of comfort with getting to know the artist through nostalgic and shared emotional experiences.
